Technical Workshop on Superconducting Gravimetry at RAEGE Yebes station

The International Geodynamics and Earth Tide Service (IGETS) is the global organization dedicated to collecting, analyzing, and distributing superconducting gravimeter data for geodynamics and Earth tide research. It held its first technical workshop at the RAEGE Yebes station from March 24th to 26th.

The event brought together superconducting gravimeter (SG) operators from various IGETS member observatories, alongside representatives from GWR Instruments, the world’s sole manufacturer of this specialized equipment. Throughout the three-day workshop, participants shared practical insights, operation and maintenance expertise, and strategic feedback. A key focus of the discussions was identifying critical user-driven improvements to enhance data quality, aiming to inform the design of the next generation of superconducting gravimeters.

Since the new Directing Board took office in 2024, chaired by Marta Calvo (IGN), IGETS has actively expanded its mission. Recognizing the high complexity of this instrumentation, the service now aims to be not just a data repository, but a vibrant hub for technical knowledge exchange among operators.

In this context, the RAEGE Yebes workshop marks a milestone in promoting this new line of international collaboration. It represents a significant step forward toward deeper global cooperation and the optimized performance of superconducting gravimeters worldwide.
