FLORES CORE SITE

The site of the future RAEGE Station of Flores is located in the municipality of Lajes, close to the Miradouro da Fajã de Lopo Vaz. Since 2020, a meteorological station and a permanent GNSS station (LJFL) have been installed, with a Septentrio PolaRx5 receiver. In the future, it is planned to install the various equipment necessary for this station to be recognized as a GGOS Station, thus implementing other space geodesy techniques (such as VLBI) and gravimetry.

The RAEGE Station of Flores is decisive for the RAEGE network, not only due to the improvement in the network geometry and the possibility to allow new baselines for each of the space geodetic techniques, but also due to its location, being the only RAEGE station located on the North American tectonic plate.
